About MB Fit
I am Marco Becerra, Owner and Founder of MB Fitness LLC, and since early in my high-school years, I've been drawn to the world of fitness. It was back in 2008 when I began to dabble into training and understanding what resistance training was all about.
Anyway, who am I and why should you listen to me? Well, to you I’m nobody, at the moment. But, my goal is to provide you with value and build you up and here at MB Fitness, you will get the tools and tactics that I've learned and applied through myriad training methodologies and sports that I've tried.
So first off, you guessed it, I love working out. But it wasn’t always this way. I used to be a chubby kid, and get bullied for it, strike out with girls, and spend a lot of time alone. Yes, that's a hard pill to swallow and even harder to admit in writing.
Currently, I still spend time alone, but I do so electively, and not because I get excluded because of my poor body image and my “woe-is-me” attitude.
Back in high school, I trained with my buddy Oscar, and from there we both grew, and later fell into the celebrity-workout Kool-aid, thinking that we were going to look like Arnold after hitting the weights for six whole weeks. Right.
From there, Oscar went on to participate in track & and field, and I tried my hand a Soccer. But I was fat and slow, so I quit after going to practice, twice. But hilariously enough, I later decided to play rugby, and ironically there was a lot more running involved than with futbol. At least I could then hit people and I kept that up for a couple of seasons.
After high school, I floated about like that paper bag that Katy Perry was talking about in 2010 or whatever, without a purpose. Because of that, I decided to join the Army National Guard. That's right! The classic “foreign kid moves to the US and joins to get citizenship” trope! I moved here from Bolivia when I was 9 or 10, but my memory of that move is pretty hazy.
Naturally, basic training is where I learned discipline and felt like I was part of a tribe. That is until I returned from basic training to my unit, which unfortunately had an abundance of unfit individuals. Yes, some soldiers were fat, and some could not uphold the Army’s physical fitness standards. These same people would parrot expressions such as “I remember when I was fresh out of basic!” or “Yeah I used to be hooah like you." when they would see me exercising in the barracks or on our yearly two-week excursion known as annual training.
Throughout my Army career, I’ve met a lot individuals that are dedicated to staying fit and being lethal, however, and many more that are not quite as committed. Some folks just get complacent and comfortable, or let life pass them by without taking action, which is easy to do and I don't fault them for it.
Honestly, I haven’t always been an angel myself and I don’t want you to get the wrong idea.
I've spent years where I've struggled with my body image, long before I even began exercising. Even way before I joined the service. I wasn’t always “hooah” either. I’ve had my share of metaphorical and literal slips, trips, and falls.
But above all of my failures, and my success, I’m a regular person. Just like you. With that said, I'm grateful for all of the challenges that I’ve had to face thus far in my life. Whether they were challenges that I created through my complacency or challenges that arose through events outside of my control. I have no regrets.
Through my career and my life, I learned that "gratitude is the attitude." The things that occur in life don’t happen to us, they happen for us. Every event in our lives can be an opportunity to learn, to feel, to progress. Once you learn how to change your mind, you will change your life.
Whether you support my business or become my coaching client, I want you to know that whatever hardship you experience today or tomorrow, it will pass, and you will grow from it. Even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment.
If you’re busy like most of us are, you will make time for what you need to do. So make your health and fitness a non-negotiable task, and sacrifice short-term pleasure for long-term success.
